Report for the GlobalGiving Project/6th September 2025
(Adivasi Women Train Youth on Foerst Foods in India/48854)
This report is based on the past months (June to August) work in central India where an exchange of knowledge about wild foods was organised. All the participants belong to adivasi communities and collect and consume much food from their forests. However, of the two villages that were the focus of the initiative, one was more aware of foods that the other in certain specific foods. This was the motive to create the exchange between the two communities, that they could learn from each other and perhaps visit each others villages and demonstration plots.
The two villages (Kakalgur and Sandh Karmari) are both located in Bastar district, Chhattisgarh. They mapped the various foods that they knew and harvested from their forests. The results were as given below:

The basic data was accompanied by details of where these species are found, how and by whom they are collected, their status in the wild as well as other considerations. In one village a demonstration plot has been established by a women’s group. The exchange visits will begin after the monsoon.
