Summary

Girls in South Sudan lack access to basic education, better parenting, shelter, sanitation and food due to protracted civil war, harmful traditions, poor infrastructure and poverty. For survival girls marry early to older men. Rape and defilement and other forms of GBV are high. This project will target 50 school girls for awareness and advocacy to end GBV cases and all forms of human rights violations and enhance the capacities of parents, Government and communities to address gender concerns.

Challenge

Early Marriage, pregnancies, forced marriage, rape, defilement and hard labor due to prolong conflict has affected girls in South Sudan. No access to school, sanitation and food. The girls are exposed to risks as they go to forests search for firewood for sale, Most of the Girls are crowded in the IDP camp and have no option other than to marry. This project will enhance capacities of 50 girls, to raise awareness against GBV, early marriage and pregnancies through campaign, media.

Solution

This project will target 50 girls as pilot and will address issues affecting girls through awareness raising, advocacy, media campaign, lobby, Capacity building training's, establishment of girl friendly spaces,visibility, IEC materials, provision of sanitary pads, focus group discussions with girls and girl peer groups. These will change the attitude and mindset of communities, parents, stakeholders to support the Girl child education for substantial development and well being in south Sudan

Long-Term Impact

Girls in South Sudan are viewed as economical properties. A family without a girl child is considered poor. parents are illiterate, lack of knowledge to protect their girls. Through awareness raising, capacity building training's, campaigns and media the mindset, attitude of the communities, parents and stakeholders will be changed and enhanced in the long term and they will support the girl child education for substantial development and well being of south Sudan through girls and women.
