We are pleased to tell you that the first figures of this project are very positive. To continue, we have the will, the physical space, the older people and the teachers. We need to finance the supplies: the tablets, pen drives, chargers, notebooks, adapted PCs, snacks, screen protectors, speakers.

The 1st experience has shown us that they need this space to stay active mentally, physically and emotionally. Their involvement was very high, with little drop-out and a very low absenteeism rate. This project nurtures self-esteem, the desire to learn, confidence, independence and productivity of older people. What is achieved for them today, are benefits achieved for when we reach their age.

Responding to current demographic transformations, we have recognised that in recent decades the number of people living over 60 years of age has increased, and this phenomenon is occurring in disparate contexts, especially in the most vulnerable communities. The increase of the elderly population on a global scale and the concern for quality of life is producing an incessant transformation in social scenarios.

In González Catán, Argentina, (the place where Obra del Padre Mario is) this problem is one of the central axes of the action that we undertake in our foundation.

For more than 30 years we have been working for the elderly, offering different services linked to the satisfaction of their nutritional, social, health and emotional needs.

We promote the emotional and physical health of the elderly, in order to solve the problems of loneliness, physical distance and impediments linked to mobility.

This project integrates them into the digital world and allows them to strengthen their functional capacities:

  1. learn, grow, and make decisions to strengthen autonomy, dignity, integrity, personal freedom and independence.
  2. to be mobile to complete daily tasks and to participate in activities
  3. to build and maintain relationships with family, neighbours, others
  4. to contribute to society (helping friends, mentoring young people)

The actions we develop are oriented towards the promotion of the five principles set out by the United Nations in favour of the elderly: care, independence, participation, self-realisation and dignity.

We have a Day Senior Care Center in which we seek to guarantee adequate care for the ageing person through prevention and health care promotion activities. We also develop recreational, training and accompaniment spaces in person and online to promote healthy lifestyle habits through physical and cognitive activity: Aquagym classes, physical education, Tai Chi Chuan, Memory Stimulation, Computing and Music.

The experience we have gained along these more than 30 years, allows us to formulate projects in which the elderly are the agents in the search for more and better options for social integration and community life. We believe that a service that helps them to improve their quality of life must necessarily involve them. Experience shows that they are eager to remain active and not lose their social and family status.

Figures 2021:

  • 598 participants and attendees
  • 240 days of online activities

All this was possible with the support and commitment of our professional teams and all the community whose unwavering support has been a constant presence on all the paths we have taken, demonstrating their spirit of solidarity.

To continue, we have the will, the physical space, the older people and the teachers. We need to finance the supplies: the tablets, pen drives, chargers, notebooks, adapted PCs, snacks, screen protectors, speakers. We need your help

TESTIMONIALS:

Photo 1: "I feel more confident and stronger with my body. I learned how to breathe, postures. They give me clear instructions. Being retired, you feel, you make friends and the friendship continues after the online class. We set up a group to continue the friendship. With the online workshops in pandemic they gave us life. We feel alive"

Photo 2: "I feel much better, physically and emotionally. I am accompanied by virtual companions, I have a group to communicate with. In these workshops you learn new things, they are moments of distraction for you. You are in movement and the communication is very warm"

Warmest regards,
