FOOD DRIVE

By QUEEN OBASI | PRESIDENT

Our work is in the rural villages in Nigeria where there is no or limited access to health care. We were callings from the volunteers on ground about the effect of the COVID-19 on the population we are serving. They were very concerned and frantic about hour people are dying from starvation due to the lockdown with no income or hope of getting any help from the government being that they are in the Eastern part of the country. We ahd to act fast and started asking for help to be able to buy some food stuff locally and distribute to those in our maintenance program and families around the locations.

During the month of May, we combined food drive and maintenance program at the resources center and other locations. We raised some money to buy raw food stuff for the population we serve. We were able to supply about 520 families with Rice, brown beans, black eye peas and tomatoes that will last them for two months depending on the size of the family. Our sincere thanks goes to Friends of Nigeria of America, Christ Episcopal Church in Woodbury, St Mary's Guild of Christ Episcopal church in Woodbury, ACHI board members and friends. We are planning conducting another food drive in July because the condition is getting worse in the villages we serve. There is always room for donation for us to reach more people.
