This project will afford disadvantaged and compromised Deaf children the opportunity to access specialised education as well as accommodation at Fulton School for the Deaf in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
Many Deaf children are identified in rural areas of South Africa. Their families face the unfortunate dilemma of finding specialised schools to accommodate and educate them as local schools are unable to provide the necessary support required. Hostel accommodation is provided for the children from the age of 3 years. Many families are unable to afford these costs.
Funds collected will provide opportunities for these Deaf children to be safely accommodated and medically cared for in the stable environment offered at Fulton School, enabling them to access specialised education through the medium of South African Sign Language.
This project will enable Deaf learners across the socio-financial spectrum access to specialised education and safe accommodation resulting in well-educated Deaf school leavers becoming meaningful members of society as well as gaining access to tertiary education.
