Mariam's Journey from Barriers to Belonging

By Nour Elmasry | Digital Marketing Specialist

Thank you to our donors for making this work possible. Your generosity brings real change, hope, and dignity to wheelchair users and their families.

Meet 8-year-old Mariam! She is a vibrant second-grader from Cairo who lives with Spina Bifida. Mariam loves going to school, but her Primary School has stairs and thresholds in her wheelchair was a daily struggle that limited her independence—until our supporters stepped in to help change her story.

  • The Challenge: Mariam faced daily physical barriers at her School. Stairs and elevated thresholds forced her to rely constantly on others, limiting her independence.
  • The Intervention: We installed accessible ramps at critical chokepoints throughout the school, creating a seamless, barrier-free path to her classroom and communal areas.
  • The Impact:

o             Independence: Mariam now navigates school autonomously, boosting her confidence.

o             Inclusion: She easily joins friends during breaks, eliminating physical divides.

o             Focus: Free from daily mobility struggles, she can concentrate fully on her studies.

o             Peace of Mind: Her family knows she is in a safe, accommodating environment.

To every donor who helped make this dream a reality—thank you. We urge you to keep this hope alive by becoming a monthly donor. Sustained, reliable support is the key to helping us transform the lives of even more wheelchair users and their families.
