Since our last update in November, access to affordable healthcare in Kabul has become increasingly difficult for people living in poverty. Many clinics and hospitals face funding shortages, leading to reduced services and facility closures. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that nationwide, 236 health centers have already shut down, with more at risk, directly affecting country's low-income communities - 15 of these only were in Kabul province. The ban on women training as nurses and midwives has made the situation worse, limiting healthcare access for women and children. With fewer resources, overcrowded hospitals, and rising costs, many families in Kabul are struggling to get the medical care they need.
Despite the ongoing challenges, we are proud that Action for Development has been able to keep the Health Facility running, providing essential healthcare to those in need.
In the last six months, we have delivered a total of 25,285 services, the top 5 services were:
9666 childhood vaccinations

Maternity Health Services – Saving Lives of women and newborns
Afghanistan has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the world, worsened by the loss of skilled doctors and midwives in 2021. In response, Action for Development launched a maternity health service in through our newly enagurated health facility in North Kabul, bringing life-saving care to women in a remote area with little healthcare access.
Since opening in April 2024:
With no new midwives being trained in Afghanistan, we are strengthening the skills of existing midwives, who play a critical role in maternal health—especially in rural areas where they are often the only female health workers available. Our cascade training program ensures that knowledge is passed down, expanding access to skilled care across more communities.
This is just the beginning. Thank you for your support! With your support we can reach even more women and babies who need us.
