Support Poor Couples to Access Family Planning

Family planning (FP) is not just a population control mechanism, but an incredible tool of empowerment for couples. Through provision of choices and awareness about contraception, family planning significantly reduces the vulnerabilities of unwanted or untimely pregnancies, unsafe abortions, poor maternal and child health, thus saving precious lives of mothers and babies. It is very important to give choices to an individual so that right method can be find that fits them.

Hindustan Latex Family Planning Promotion Trust (HLFPPT) has been contributing towards family planning goals in India from last 26 years. On the demand side, we are consistently working towards increasing contraception awareness & access among communities, counselling on FP methods, offering increased basket of choice; while on the supply side we are committed towards building capacities of health providers on FP services, creating network of dedicated FP Clinics, etc. We are thankful to our donors who motivates us to work towards the goal.

At HLFPPT, we believe in providing right based family planning services which aims to fulfill the rights of all individuals to choose whether, when, and how many children to have; to act on those choices through high-quality sexual and reproductive health services, information, and education; and to access those services free from discrimination, coercion, and violence. In this report, we would like to share the story of Arti who was counseled at HLFPPT’s MGHN (MerryGold Health Network) Mughalsarai Hospital for her right to choose the best family planning method that suits her body. Arti, a high school pass out does not have much knowledge about family planning. She was already mother of 3 children. Sumitra, a Merrytarang Member met her in one of her community meetings where she identified the need to counsel Arti for FP. She took Arti to Mughalsarai Hospital. Arti was counseled about the need of family planning and choices for FP Methods. After getting proper knowledge and discussion with her family, she decided to opt for sterilization.

There are many other women and men like Arti in India who don’t have knowledge about family planning and its access. They need your support to be identified, get counseled and use family planning method.

At our MerryGold Health Network, we put our efforts not only in promoting but also providing services. We would like to thank you all for your continuous support in making this project a success.

Health workers of MGHN motivate community members for utilizing Family Planning Methods. In this report, we would like to share the success story of our Merrytarang Worker Babita who motivated Kavita for availing family planning Services at the facility.

Kavita along with her husband and 4 children reside at difficult to reach area. Babita met Kavita in one of her community meetings. She counseled Kavita about the importance of family planning services and how she can access these services for free. Though it was not easy to convince Kavita, but she got ready after continuous follow ups by Babita.

Kavita availed the contraception service at MGHN Dev Anant Hospital. She also shared that she was properly counseled and investigated before the surgery. MerryGold Staff is very cooperative and good. She also motivated others for availing services at MGHN facility by sharing her feedback.
