PARTIAL REPORT ON THE HOGAR POLICARPO PROJECT. August 2023.
1.- Remembering the project:
The main goal for this year 2023, in terms of education in Peru is still how to fill the huge gap generated by COVID.
Perú continues to live a great political difficulty, thar leaves large poverty gaps and the field of education is no stranger to this situation, because it continues to cause lack of opportunities for so many young people who want to study higher education due mainly to the interruption of classes for two consecutive years.
The main problem is the blocking of the new building that has taken de students on trike because of the risk of loosin dtheir certification and closin of the Pedagogic Institute.
However, the project "Higher Education for Amazonian Youth" (Hogar Policarpo, Yurimaguas (Peru)) has been deeply affected by the context: the decision of the Peruvian Ministry of Education to resume face-to-face education. For this reason, the project had to be reformulated and all the activities related to the full educational activity in the Higher Pedagogical Institute "Monsignor Elías Olázar" of Yurimaguas had to be brought forward.
One year again, facing a huge problem: The construction of the Pedagogic Institute that never ends.
Let us remember from the words of Brother Mariano Soria, director of the residence:
A Pedagogical Institute whose construction lasts years...
It is the government of the Loreto region that is mainly responsible for the construction work of our Pedagogical is paralyzed for nine months after years of struggle to start. We are working from a school that was lent to us by the bishop that does not meet the conditions for the Institute to obtain certification from the Ministry of Education. And if we do not pass this condition of quality of infrastructure the Pedagogical should close.
To that is added that we have no hope of having a shelter Residence
The hostel feeds more students than expected in the Project and only with the help of Foundation Corazonistas and with which it goes out to beg some acquaintances of the market. Out of government disinterest.
40% of our students who came to study from the rural and native area do not guarantee their continuity in the Pedagogical because they do not have the conditions to study or eat.
And the Residence has to scrape its pots or pour more water into the soup every day. That is what blows our souls. The apathy of the rulers of both the national and regional government.
And our only ally are the streets and the people with God's help to fight peacefully. And go out to demonstrate either in the morning afternoon or night, encircling the regional government when he comes as he did this time to our town of Yurimaguas. This is a bit of a regrettable situation that we have to face dear friends.
2.- Activities description:
2.1. Specific activities carried out during this period (May – August 2023)
1. Renovation of the roof (July-August)
2. Lifestyle training workshops for the young people of the Residence (July-August)
3. Workshops of good coexistence and commitment of the Internal Regulations
4. Healthy Eating Nutrition Workshop (July-August)
5. Review of those housed in the Health Center (anemia, low weight, deworming, malaria prevention, PREVENTION OF COVID-19, HIV ...) (May-August)
2.2. General activities carried out during the year
1. Accompaniment and workshops of study habits, good use of leisure time. Learn to play musical instruments and dances or dances of the area
2. Presentation in public spaces of what they learned in leisure time
3. Weekly assessment, change of roles and responsibilities
4. accompaniment in the feeding of the young people of the Residence
5. Care and maintenance of the house, farm and spaces that the Residence has
6. Volunteer service to the Pedagogical Institute, to the local rural and urban community when there are situations of help
3.- Project review.
The Brother Policarpo Residence of the IESPP "Monseñor Elías Olázar" of the Apostolic Vicariate of Yurimaguas, which is administered by the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, opens its doors with the purpose of giving an opportunity to these young people, who will be the promoters of human and Christian education in their different communities through the integral formation that they will receive from the Pedagogical Residence. In addition, it is necessary the operation and service of this work of solidarity in view that many young people who study in the Pedagogical Olázar, come from human settlements (peripheries), who must also be served, because they lack the essential that are food and digital media to ensure progress in their academic work.
At the moment many young people who study at the I.S. Pedagógico, do so with great sacrifices and this beginning of the course is being especially complex:
1.- They have had to leave their families in native and rural communities;
2.- When they arrive in Yurimaguas, they do not have a home or relatives from where they can study;
3.- They cannot afford decent food, which means that their academic performance is often at a starting level, causing them to drop out of school;
4.- They lack personal accompaniment, which makes them vulnerable to alcohol, bad habits, etc.
- General Objective:
To provide quality services to students from indigenous communities and peripheral areas in order to guarantee their comprehensive education at the Instituto de Educación Superior Pedagógico Público in the city of Yurimaguas.
2. Specific objectives.
- Monitor the process and good academic performance of the students living in the Residence.
- Guarantee that the food they receive is of good quality and favors their nutrition and good performance for students living in the residence and students who come from extreme situations in the city of Yurimaguas.
- Accompany the students living in the Residence to integrate with each other within the framework of interculturality and fully comply with the assigned responsibilities. - To ensure that Christian formation is provided to the students living in the Residence so that in the future they may be promoters of Christian education in their communities.
- Seek financing to change the precarious roofs of the Hno. Policarpo Residence.
3. General activities:
- Monitoring of the process and academic performance of the students living in the Residence.
- Guarantee that the food that the beneficiaries will receive is of good quality and favors their nutrition and good performance of the students who live in the residence and students who come from extreme situations in the city of Yurimaguas.
- Accompanying students living in the Residence, and integrating each other within the framework of interculturality, respect and full compliance with assigned responsibilities.
- That they make good use of their leisure time, emphasizing the habit of reading, development of skills in music, culinary arts and leadership.
- That the precarious roofing of the Residence be changed.
