PARTIAL REPORT ON HOGAR Br. POLICARPO. April 2023. Year-Start Report
Brothers of the Sacred Heart founded in the city of Yurimaguas the Student Residence or Hogar Br. Policarpo where young men and women who do not have family homes in the city are welcomed. Living in this Home is a privilege and a great blessing for students because they have guaranteed food, a place from which they can study and the necessary means.
The place is small, we would like in the future that the government build us decent environments, because it limits us from welcoming more students. To this date we house 34 students, seven girls and 27 boys. But it is necessary to consider that students who do not have for a lunch (meal) are cordially welcomed in order to guarantee their continuity in the Pedagogical Institute.
Start of course at the Pedagogical Institute "Mons. Elías Olázar"
On April 3, 2023, we started the academic year at the Institute of Public Higher Education "Mons. Elías Olázar" in the city of Yurimaguas. This start was delayed because in 2022 we presented the instute to the licensing process, seeking that our graduates at the end of their studies leave as graduates and with university rank, a situation that to date has not been achieved, for this reason they continue to culminate only as pedagogues, where their degrees on behalf of the nation are equal to that of technical professional who only study three years: inequalities that exist in educational laws in Peru.
However, the dream of achieving this long-awaited recognition continues motivating us. That is why we delayed everything, because in the first week of March we received the documents with the precise observations that gave us a date to resend our means of verification already lifted from the seven criteria in 73 means of verification. Though it costed us to finish it, it was sent and so we are waiting again.
Our Pedagogical Institute is in great demand by many young men and women from different places of origin: urban, rural and native communities, because we are a bilingual Pedagogical since we teach the Shawi and Kukama Kukamiria languages and in the midst of it we provide Human formation respecting the diversity of existing creeds.
In this year in the admission process, 423 young people who had the illusion of wanting to be teachers applied, with 200 admitted. Difficult to know the sadness of many of them when they did not manage to enter our house of studies. Currently in this I-2023 Semester, we have 682 students. They are distributed in 25 classrooms and in five careers: Initial and Primary in Intercultural Bilingual Education EIB, Communication, Social Sciences and Science and Technology. As mentioned they come from different places and have to make a great effort not only cognitively, but also to figure out how to be in the city; especially those who come from rural and native communities. As trainers we focus on all our students in providing them with scientific, investigative quality teaching, reinforcing the often low learning pace they bring and valuing their cultural identity.
New dreams for a new year
The novelties for this year, what excites us as I mentioned earlier is to achieve this long-awaited license for being a right of justice for the good of our students and also for our teachers so that they can have better salaries or salary floors. In the same way, it is expected that this new management of the regional government of Loreto, will resume our work and the construction of our new Pedagogical will be concluded. Because it has been almost two years since our work has been abandoned and, if it were not for Bishop Jesús María Aristín, who lent us the environments of an old school of yours, we would not have spaces since our Pedagogical could be working. This year 2023 will be a year full of several services here in Yurimaguas, but it is important to value the work that is done from that shared mission with the other alumni who are mostly the teachers in our Pedagogical and these good people who help us in the Brother Polycarp Home.
We are immensely grateful to the Corazonistas Foundation, because without it, which is like the beneficent mother, we could not carry out this beautiful human and solidary work.
