Clean water initiatives in Aparis Village, Kumi Uganda, have made life-changing progress, addressing chronic water scarcity. Thanks to single donations efforts on GlobalGiving to Aparis Community Development Program that has helped repair one borehole, hence historical challenges with waterborne diseases and long-distance water fetching have dramatically improved.

Key updates regarding clean water access in the village include:
  • Borehole Repair & Rehabilitation: An borehole water systems have been repaired, turning hours-long walks for water into local access for residents. Additionally, 5 existing broken boreholes have been slated for to undergone major repairs.
  • Sanitation & Hygiene Training: Alongside repairs, water-user committees have been trained. Villagers now receive education on safe hygiene practices, drastically reducing the rates of waterborne illnesses like diarrhea and skin rashes. 
  • Ongoing Funding Needs: While one community borehole is fully operational, Aparis Community Development Program remain active on GlobalGiving fundraising page to secure more funding to sustain the water supply for the poorest residents in Aparis Village, Kumi Uganda.

The project: Give Water & Life" project for Aparis village (Kanyumu, Uganda) focuses on resolving chronic water scarcity by repairing broken boreholes and upgrading local infrastructure. 

The initiative aims to improve health, eliminate long water-fetching journeys, and promote community empowerment through proper water management. 

Project Objectives & Activities

Infrastructure Repair: Restoring old, non-functional boreholes to provide reliable access to clean, potable water.

Water Safety: Protecting local water sources from contamination to reduce the incidence of waterborne diseases.

Health and Hygiene: Providing education and training on sanitation so families can safely transport and store water at the household level. 

Community Impact

Saves Time: Frees women and children from spending hours trekking long distances to collect water, which allows them to pursue education or engage in productive economic activities. 

Improves Health: Dramatically reduces the prevalence of waterborne illnesses, ensuring safety and replacing the fear of sickness with sustainable health.
