Happy, Happy New Year!
After a long and eventful holiday, at Abundance School we are starting on a new page. The teachers and also the wider community are looking to ‘up our game’ for bigger results: as you may know, we are planning to launch a new creative programme into the school, beginning with a concert to stimulate the children’s talents and self-belief.
But first I must tell you that we have started to receive our children back at school and are checking on those who have not reported back and enrolling newcomers. The teachers are ready and excited to serve - like never before. I However , with all the excitement and boiling new ideas and goals for the year, only 20 children have reported back so far out of our usual total of 80. We expect to build up the number day by day. January is a month characterised by financial strains due to excessive expenditure on Christmas and also a lack of availability of work in January. Many families will have travelled to the countryside to celebrate with their family members, which is likely to have created a huge financial burden for them. When I tell you that they are only expected to pay USD 3 or £ 2 a month to come to school (or less if this prohibitive) to cover the teachers’ salaries, you will understand the financial challenges of our families (and teachers). We are hopeful that the children will soon be able to return to school and are trusting that we are following the right path as the energy of light fills the school. We are optimistic about what God has for us as far as our bigger goals are concerned.
Let me tell you about the concert that we are planning. It is said that when you hear you forget, when you see you remember and when you do you KNOW. We have been telling our children stories about successful, talented people. This year, we want them to see and experience the talent of artists and musicians first hand, and begin to learn to do what they do. This is to be a one-day event, involving art, drama, dance and music. We expect that this will help ignite the creative fire within our children, develop their talents and motivate them to achieve. It will be the start of introducing creativity into the school: we will buy art materials and musical instruments that we can reuse over and over again. We envisage our children, inspired, more confident and with more self-belief, connecting, probably for the first time, with their creativity.
To make this happen we are asking our friends and donors and Facebook friends and friends of friends for your help. We need another $ 920 (£ 690). Please consider helping with this; if all our friends just donate a small amount we will have what we need. Bellow is the link to donate.
Thank you very much for choosing to support us through GlobalGiving, we look forward to connecting with you and keeping you informed about our plans.
Sending you best wishes for a blissful New Year from all of us at Abundance School.
God bless you!
