Abundance School
We know that children's positive experiences in early education are so important to their success in secondary and post-secondary educational levels, and to eventual success in the careers of their choice.
With these facts in mind, Abundance school follows an educational program that enhances physical, mental/emotional and spiritual positive experiences. Apart from teaching our children mathematics, languages, social studies, enviromental health and hygiene, our children are taught to breathe and meditate for relaxation, joy and concentration. They also participate in co-curriculum and creative activities where they get to discover and nurture their talents. Our teachers are sensitive and committed to empowering ‘all-round’ children. They provide the safety that enables children to let go of day-to- day sources of pain.Children feel safe at school and are always assured of at least one meal per day, something that, sadly, here in the slums of Nairobi, parents are not always able to guarantee.
As part of our field studies this year, our children participated in an international Trade fair where they had to learn through experience; they had fun and enjoyed themselves.
Our school calender has been affected so much by political uncertainity in our country this year. On one accasion, the school calender had to be shortened because of the uncertaintly caused by our national elections. As you may have heard, we had an election that was ruled null and void by the supreme court. A fresh election was orderd to be conducted. The electorol body gazetted for an election on the 26th of this month. As a result schools are expected to close by the 24th to enable the election to be held again. A few days ago, the opposition leader withdrew from the race becouse he felt that the election was pre-rigged, the electorol body was unfair and that the people who rigged the previous election were still in office.
We are still uncertain about the political situation in our country. We are hoping for a good outcome for everyone and by next year that the environment will be safe and conducive for children to learn. We believe education is the strongest weapon to break the cycle of poverty which can open opportunities for income, growth and sustainable development.
