My name is Michelle Harwood and I was very fortunate to have received the AboutFace Scholarship in 2014. This scholarship was an amazing honour to accept, as there are so many deserving winners. Before and after the scholarship, AboutFace has impacted my life in so many ways. The organization shaped my future career ambitions and the scholarship helped me get one step closer to my goal.
I am currently in my third year of an undergraduate degree at Queen’s University, where I am majoring in Biology. I absolutely love my program and I am learning new and exciting things every day. When I received my scholarship in 2014, my future career ambition was to become a pediatric craniofacial surgeon, allowing me to give back to all of those surgeons who have helped me, my friends at AboutFace, and many other children. At the moment, my goal remains to go into medicine; however, I am being exposed to many other interesting career paths that I didn’t know existed in both medicine and biology. My ultimate goal is to help people and AboutFace and the scholarship they offer has assisted me in my goal. I am forever grateful.
