AboutFace has been an important part of my life for the last several years. I was born with one side of my body smaller than the other side, and I have a learning disability. Thanks in part to the AboutFace scholarship, I will be attending the Achieve Program at Nova Scotia Community College, which will help me with the life skills I need to prepare for further education, training and employment success, and independent living. The Achieve Program has shown me that my differences don’t change who I am on the inside, and that I can still achieve my goals and help others achieve theirs. I can still be happy and live a productive life.
AboutFace's Camp Trailblazers has given me the courage and confidence to learn to swim, which I have struggled with, despite taking lessons for two years. I thought I would never be able to swim, but now I can! Camp Trailblazers and AboutFace have helped me become the best person I can be, and have given me the social skills and self-confidence I need to succeed in life. I would like to give others the opportunity to succeed, just as I have been given the chance to succeed, despite my disability. I am looking forward to attending community college and starting the next chapter in my life. Thank you to AboutFace for helping me reach my goals!
