Prosperous and Sustainable Farming

Introduction:
"Prosperous and Sustainable Farming," spearheaded by the KFPC, is a transformative initiative dedicated to empowering local farmers. The project's primary goals are to enhance organic farming practices, impart business acumen, and ensure farmers meet sustainable production standards. This initiative is pivotal in making farmers eligible for government services from the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Trade and Industry.

Objectives:

  • Build farmers' capacity for organic farming and Good Agricultural Practices.
  • Provide business knowledge and skills for production, processing, and marketing.
  • Assist farmers in meeting sustainable production standards.

Impacts:

  • Addressing the needs of countryside farmers, especially in forest areas.
  • Ensuring nutritious food for farming families and the community.
  • Providing immediate food supply during crises or disasters.
  • Fostering resilience and adaptability in adversity.

Key Achievements:

  • Successful organization of events like "Tabuan sa Parokya" and "Harvest Festival" to aid farmers in direct selling and community sharing.
  • Formation of farmers' associations, recognition from DOLE and City Agriculture, and tool distribution through ACSF.
  • Sharing surplus harvest with the community, thus ensuring food security.
  • Signing of Memorandums of Agreement to support sustainable agriculture projects.
  • Ongoing Farmers Field School (FFS) and engagement with the Higaonon tribe for education and community support.

Quantitative and Qualitative Measures:

  • Cultivation of 16 hectares of land across various communities.
  • Active participation of 10-20 farmers in each area.
  • Dialogue and solidarity initiatives with the Higaonon Tribe, leading to educational support and resource sharing.

Assets Contribution:

  • Community: Land, labor, skills, time, and volunteerism.
  • KFPC: Land area, farm technology, government liaisons, training, and strategic planning.
  • Christ the King Parish: Training venues and logistical support.

  • Effective collaboration with stakeholders including CDP, Department of Agriculture, and Local Government Unit-City of Butuan.
  • Influence on local government programs and communal farming initiatives.

  • Embracing the Bayanihan system for communal farming success.
  • Creativity, harmony, and collectiveness are fostered through communal activities and training.

Sustainability and Expansion:

  • Focus on organic farming and hydroponics for sustainable food production.
  • Support for individual farmers and the Higaonon Tribal Association in land cultivation and backyard gardening.

Overall, KFPC's efforts have significantly contributed to promoting sustainable agriculture, fostering community unity, and ensuring inclusion among farmers and communities.
