Due to COVID19, all schools in Iganda, just like many parts of the world, were shutdown. Unfortunately, millions of children in rural Uganda have not had a chance to continue learning, as they have no access to electricity, computers, internet and Radios are monopolised by adults. In effect many girls have already gotten pregnant and several boys are taking on petty jobs, making it even harder for them to go back to school when schools open, which is not in sight yet.
We plan to take locally relevant, beautifully illustrated and attractive books to children in select communities across the country. Through this we shall be providing some reading materials and encouraging story books to keep these children still interested in learning and looking forward to getting back to school and of course falling in love with books, learn to read so they can read to learn.
This project will improve literacy and learning outcomes of children, directly impacting on school completion rates, which are very low. As children learn to read and read to learn, their grades in class will increase dramatically, increasing their chances to succeed and reducing on the risk on national security and Development as many of them will be able to graduate from college and get jobs that enable them to contribute to National transformation rather than being a burden.
