Thanks continued…… from our community members who are the direct beneficiaries of your support. In the current quarter, we have primarily focus on the training of mason in target village and Panchyats because the major problem is of trained session availability at village level in last 3 month’s we have conducted 4 training of Mason in Bhagalpur and Samastipur.
Bhagalpur intervention:-
Large Scale Sanitation Campaign:
Lohiya Swachh Bihar Abhiyan (LSBA) is a combination of Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin (SBM-G)-a centrally sponsored scheme and Lohiya Swachh Yojana (LSY)-a state sponsored scheme which aims at 100% elimination of open defecation, promotion of cleanliness and hygiene improving the overall quality of life in the rural areas of Bihar. The project is driven through two schemes viz. Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin and Lohiya Swachhta Yojana. The mission of the project is to eliminate open defecation system from Bihar by Feb 02, 2019.
Mr. Arvind Kumar, Block Development Officer, Sanhoula has nominated Mr. Ashish kumar, programme coordinator , Nidan as Nodal officer for open defecation free campaign of Madarganj & Bhuriya Mahiyama Panchayat under Sanhoula block.
AIPAD team has organised several rally, community interface for open defecation free Sanhoula. We also used different IEC for behaviour change with the help of advocacy group/youth group / students etc. We give special focus on Behavioural Change Communication (BCC) among the community members.
World Toilet day
The world is not on track to reach Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: to ensure availability and sustainable management of sanitation and water for all by 2030. In fact, 4.5 billion people live without safely managed sanitation and 892 million people still practise open defecation. Toilet play a crucial role in creating a strong economy, as well as improving health and protecting people’s safety and dignity, particularly women’s and girls’.
On the occasion of world Toilet day on 19November, AIPAD team has organised rallies, meetings and also demonstrated hand washing practises in AWCs/schools
Street plays organised to convey message of healthy eating habit and hygiene
Street Play are a dynamic way of raising awareness on the issues the plague our society. Those taking part in these carry a huge responsibility of spreading the message to audiences across the locality. Message of healthy eating habits have been spread via enacting various informative stories in series of nukkad natak organised by Nidan, The Nand and Jeet Khemaka Foundation supported by European Union under AIPAD progamme. The main objective is to develop general sense of cleanliness and hygiene among the people. Street plays were staged at different places to give a message to avoid eating cut fruits, washing vegetables before cooking and hand washing. We have raised the many issues like nutrition, health, and hygienic Cleanness etc through street play. Block Development officer & Block coordinator of Lohiya Swachha Bihar Abhiyan, Sanhoula block presented during the street play and also motivated to the community regarding ODF, Health and Nutrition. Mukhiya, ward members, Advocacy group members, youth group members are assisted in organising the events.
Samastipur intervention:-
Celebration of Global WASH Days- Global handwashing Day:- On the Occasion of Global Handwashing Day Event we organized Prabhat Pheris, community meetings on the significance of Safe Hands- Clean Hands which was also the theme for this year’s event. Total Participants: 387.
Celebration of Global WASH Days- World Toilet Day:- On the Occasion of the World Toilet Day event we organized activities at school level on the usage of toilets, behavior change. During this event we encouraged children to undertake hygiene promotional activities and promoted children’s views on usage of toilets through painting activities and School WASH. Total Participants: 1511.
Training of Preraks on CLTS & Staff Training on WASH:- Based on the very successful training of PRERAKS conducted by PLAN-NIDAN in the month of October we were again approached with a similar request by the district administration led by DM Shri.Chandrashekhar Singh and the nodal agency in the district for Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin , the department of Drinking Water and Sanitation capacity building training/Workshop of PRERAKS of ROSERA,BITHAN and Shivajinagar Blocks. We successfully conducted and organized the 02 days CLTS training for the promotion of skilled managers from 20th Nov till 24th Nov, 2018 in two batches of two days each at Rosera and Shivajinagar Blocks. Partner staff of PLAN also participated in the training at Rosera. The significance related to the knowledge and subject of the pre and post training was assessed. After analyzing the questionnaire pre and post-training, it seems clear that after the training, there has been a lot of increase in the level of knowledge of the subjects and the participants have now got adequate proficiency to work in their respective areas. Total Participants 166 including PLAN Staff.
Orientation of SMC/Teachers on School WASH at schools:- On the 8th of December, 2018 we organised Orientation meeting with SMC’s of SANKULS of our project intervention area at Basudeopur Harijan School. As a result of this meeting there was a better understanding among SMC about their roles and responsibilities, they were introducred to school WASH and are now better informed about the structure of School WASh Plan and how it is made. Total Participants: 50.
Orientation of child cabinets & WASH sessions with children at schools: - On the 29th of December 2018 We organised Orientation Training of Child cabinets and WASh Sessions with Children at two project intervention schools : UMS Kalyanpur and Basueopur School. Through this activity we were successful in building awareness among stakeholders on role of child cabinets in ensuring gender and child friendly Water, sanitation facilities in schools. We discussed about the roles and responsibilities of Child Cabinets, Introduction of children of classes 4 th to 8th on School WASH through School WASh books followed by a painting activity on School WASH and Water and Sanitation. Total Participants; 700.
Interactive session with girls on MHM at schools.:- In the month of December we organised interactive session with Girls at three project intervention schools at Govindpur Khajuri, Birsingpur and Shri Sundar Ucch Vidyalaya in our project intervention area. Girls and lady teachers were sensitized on key hygiene behaviour, disposable mechanism of sanitary napkins for providing ease and comfort to girls at schools during menstruation and adoption of best hygiene practices for better health.Total Participants: 639.
Wall paintings and writing at strategic locations.:- We have initiated the process of Wall writing and painting on various aspects of Sanitation and hygiene in our project intervention schools, AWC and community locations.At school we are painting the Correct and proper usage of toilets, at AWC the hand washing techniques and at Community centres painting of Oral Fecal Transmissions. Till date we have completed 10 paintings and Wall writings in our project intervention area.
Two Days district Level workshop of PRERAKS on CLTS.:- Upon the request of the Nodal Agency in the District Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin (DSBMG),we organized the training of 02 days CLTS training in the 01 batch for the promotion of skilled managers from 04 October to 05 October 2018 at District Magistrate Meeting Hall at Samastipur. After this two day training, based on the screening done through different medium , we fixed the roles every PRERAK will play at their respective GPs. Total Participants: 102 from Kalyanur and Samastipur Block.
