Thanks to your generosity, so many children received the essential help they needed through the Ewafe Project this quarter. The life-changing difference we are seeing is only possible because of dedicated supporters like you.

Between January and March 2026:

  • 15 children were referred to us and assessed to understand their needs.
  • 3 children were admitted to the Ewafe home.
  • 83 children were rehabilitated through the provision of a range of services.
  • 15 family follow ups were conducted.
  • 6 family tracings were carried out.
  • 8 children were reintegrated with loving families.
  • 8 parents were engaged in training sessions.
  • 1 child was successfully placed with a foster family.
  • 2 foster family follow ups were conducted.
  • 4 children were identified for independent living preparation.
  • 6 additional children were enrolled in school.

Rehabilitation
This quarter, we supported and cared for a total of 83 children at the Ewafe home. The children all received a range of essential services aimed at addressing their wellbeing, growth, and development: food, medical care, psychosocial support, education and play.
Family Tracing
This quarter, 6 tracings were conducted to facilitate family reunions. Most of the children were able to provide information about their home locations, which led to effective tracing and successful reintegrations. Several families were reached and home assessments were carried out, with the primary objective of assessing their readiness and capacity to care for the children. One caregiver expressed willingness to look after his 5 grandchildren.
Family Reintegration
This quarter, we successfully resettled 8 children with their relatives and conducted 15 family follow-up visits for children who had previously been reunited with their families. Here is a story of a family reunited this quarter:

In 2020, siblings Joseph* (8), Haroon* (14), Hamza* (14), Amani* (16) and Hazel* (17) became homeless after their father abandoned the family and sold their home. Moving between relatives who were unable to provide long-term care for them, the siblings were forced to beg for food and money to survive. Later that year, they were referred to the Ewafe Project, where they were able to stay together in a safe home.

In February 2026, the children were successfully reunited with their grandfather, who thanked Kids Club Kampala for the care and educational support provided to the children during their stay at the Ewafe home.

Foster care

Following a successful visit last quarter, a child was placed with a foster family in February 2026. In collaboration with Ewafe social workers, a district probation officer facilitated a smooth handover process. All foster care documentation was completed, and the child is currently adjusting well to her new family environment. Her foster parents described her as well-behaved and hardworking.

Independent Living

Four children, J (17), S (16), B (15) and H (16) were identified for independent living preparation. They each took part in counselling sessions to explore their vocational interests. The three boys expressed interest in motor vehicle mechanics, and one of them is currently undertaking hands-on training at a mechanic shop. The girl expressed interest in tailoring and has been enrolled for tailoring training at a local skilling centre.
