"Energy and persistence conquers all things."

 - Ben Franklin -

Troy Feaste, Founder and President of Abaco Youth Baseball is determined to get his players to the National Championships - no small task for a group of players and volunteers in MurphyTown still recovering from Dorian, the worst hurricane in the history of the Bahamas, not to mention a global pandemic in a tourist driven economy. They started with a dozen baseball gloves, a few baseballs, and some rakes and shovels less than two years ago, and have made great strides towards their goal.

With your help they will be sending their 18 and under, 14 and under, and 12 and under Boys Teams to The Bahamas Baseball Association National Championship in Freeport in June 2022. These boys have worked extremely hard to get to this point, and have learned a lot about baseball, but more importantly they have learned about team work and discipline. Help our players accomplish their goals this year by making a contribution towards, uniforms, equipment and travel expenses

The players were in need of some tough competition to prepare for nationals. There is not much opportunity for that on the island so the first step was to raise money to participate in their first tournament in Grand Bahama. The whole community came together to raise money for tournament fees and travel expenses at the First Annual Abaco Youth Baseball Fun Run. The Junior and Senior Boys and Girls teams traveled by boat to Freeport for their first tournament. It was a grand adventure for the players who acquired the needed travel and playing experience to compete in Nationals.

Please consider making a donation to keep the momentum going for these industrious youth and our dedicated volunteers and coaches. Abaco Youth Baseball has brought our community together and given us a sense of hope during some extremely trying times.

Thank you for your support. Stay #AbacoStrong

It has been just over a year since Troy Feaste and a passionate group of parents walked onto an overgrown field filled with debris from a devastating hurricane, determined to bring Youth Baseball back to Abaco. In spite of many obstacles, the program is catching on, and Troy and his dedicated team of coaches and volnteers have created something special.

I had the opportuntiy to atttend a scrimmage between the Murphy Town and The Coopers Town Senior Boys on a Saturday afternoon last November. The boys have come a long way in developing their natural talents and showed impressive discipline and sportsmanship. The players and fans alike were having a blast. The atmosphere was electric with bursts of applause and cheering with every hit and good defensive play. The day ended with the smell of sausages grilling on the sidelines, big smiles, and tired but happy kids.

Construction on the new bathrooms at The Murphy Town Field will begin in the next two weeks. A big "Thank You" to everyone that contributed to our fundraiser, which will help to pay for the much needed facility. Our goals for 2022 include raising money for a fence and backstop, and expanding the program to several other communities throughout Abaco. We will be bringing some equipment and making a visit to Grand Cay this month to jump start the baseball/softball program there.

Thank you for helping us to bring Youth Baseball and Softball back to Abaco!

As the saying goes,"Two steps forward, one step back..." Unfortunately that is how life goes some times. Due to the increased infection rate in The Bahamas, and specifically in Abaco, practices for Abaco Youth Baseball have been temporarily suspended. It is the best decision to keep the children and the entire community safe. The medical resources in The Marsh Harbour area are limited, and sadly, there has recently been an increased number of COVID related deaths in Abaco. Thanks to donations from the US and other countries, vaccines being distributed throughout Great Abaco Island and the surrounding cays. These vaccines have been available in various clinics and there will be another distribution next week. We are hopeful that we are on the down side of the recent spike in infections.

We cant wait to get our kids back on the baseball field. In the meantime, plans are being drawn up for the building of the bathroom facility at The Murphy Town Field. We are continuing to register boys and girls between the ages of 4 - 17, and we have established a need-based scholarship fund for young athletes that would not otherwise be able to participate in the baseball/softball program.

We would like to thank everyone that contributed to our Abaco Youth Baseball/Softball Fundraiser. Through your kindness and generosity, we raised over $40,000 to "Bring Youth Baseball back to Abaco". Special thanks to The Lyford Cay Charitable Trust Foundation and The Rotary Club Bahamas for their generous donations to support the Program. Dear Friends;

We are so grateful for your support of our fundraiser for Abaco Youth Baseball. We are over 90% of our goal! A special Thank You to the Lyford Cay Charitable Trust for their donation of $15,000 towards this project. We are still in need of additional equipment and funding to rebuild the bathrooms as well as the fence and backstop. With your help, we hope to begin construction later this year.

Practices are going well with over 100 boys and girls participating on Saturday mornings at the Murphy Town Softball Field. The children are learning valuable lessons about team work and discipline. Several of the parents have jumped in to cook up hamburgers and hotdogs during pratice so that the hungry baseball and softball players can enjoy a hot meal before returning home.

We have split the children into age groups and have begun scrimmages at the end of practice to give the players some experience with playing games. We hope to expand our program to include practices in Northern Abaco at the field in Cooperstown later this Summer.

Thank you so much to everyone that has supported our project so far. We can't thank you enough!

The Journey Begins
The Journey Begins

An amazing group of volunteers led by Troy Feaste is bringing Youth Baseball and Softball back to Abaco. The fledgeling program was well underway until Hurricane Dorian struck in 2019 and brought extreme devastation to Great Abaco Island. However, the spirits of the coaches and parents are not dampened, and as the community begins its slow recovery, they have begun working to clean up the fields and getting the kids together for practices. There are already over 100 children participating in spite of the fact that they have little equipment and no faciliites. Practices will continue every Saturday, with hopes of starting the season in June of 2021.
