"The best thing we can do as a global community is to make sure our kids have a good education. For these kids, their desire to learn is unlike any I’ve seen before. They love learning! They want more. For many, though, something as simple as a school bus is keeping them from furthering their education.”
- Zack Arias, Ouarzazate, 2015
“My name is Zack Arias and I am in the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco.” So begins an unusual (and newly released!) promotional video for FujiFilm that world-famous photographer and dear friend Zack Arias prepared to help us tell our story. You may watch the brand new video here.
We were introduced to Zack through FocalChange, communications experts who work to match professional visual artists – like Zack – and emerging organizations – like us. Zack traveled to Ouarzazate in 2015 to create the amazing imagery that we have been sharing with you, and to help us raise funds and awareness for our small fleet of robust school buses to transport children from the remote villages to the larger villages that have higher education schools. Zack and Focal/Change spent four days winding the narrow unpaved roads through the High Atlas Mountains to reach the remote villages and intereact with our students, parents, and teachers.
We are very thankful to Zack and to FocalChange for having visited our community and for very generously working with us to help us tell our story to all of you. Please watch the video here to learn more about our project and our community.
We thank you for joining us in removing a simple barrier to education. All of your donations will be used to ensure that every single child in Ouarzazate can access education.
We are currently monitoring our educational efforts in the area and maintaining contact with the Ouarzazate community and institutional partners, such as the Parent Teacher Association and the Ministry of Education to ensure that the pilot bus system will start off smoothly as soon as it is fully funded through the generous support of donors like you.
If you would like to support us again, one great day to do this will be today, June 15. On this Bonus Day, all online donations made between 9am and midnight (EDT) will be eligible for a pro-rated match from GlobalGiving.
Thank you again for your support and please feel free to contact us with any questions, comments, and ideas.
Gratefully yours,
Hafida Aguozi
