Haiti's children face a future of hunger, illiteracy, illness and unemployment if they don't go to school. Education is the fastest way out of dehumanizing poverty. We support St. Paul's School in Petit Trou de Nippes in rural Haiti, providing quality education for 700 preschool-to-10th grade children. Public education is sparse and uneven in rural areas. Colorado Haiti Project is the main source of financial support for this school. These girls and boys deserve a chance - please support them!
Kids in rural Haiti face an uphill battle. The literacy rate in the country is only 53%, and only 50% of primary age kids go to school. One third of girls NEVER attend school. Only 10% of Haiti's schools are publicly funded, and many kids are left behind. The Petit Trou region has over 30,000 citizens. St. Paul's School is the most hopeful path for this community's children. A quality education will bring opportunities they have never had before, and give them a way out of a lifetime of poverty
At St. Paul's School we have been providing a high quality education to children in the region since 1990. The school is 100% staffed by Haitian teachers. This education creates hope and opportunity for the children of Petit Trou to escape the cycle of illiteracy and poverty. At school the children also receive a nutritious meal and have access to clean water, health services, and higher education scholarships and vocational training. Some students have gone on to become teachers themselves!
St. Paul's School is providing this rural Haitian community its first generation of literate children. In 2013, 100% of our 6th and 9th grade students passed the national exams- a real achievement! This opportunity to receive a quality education will enable local youth to lead the community towards economic development and sustainability. Help us keep hope alive for these children - together we can realize the Haitian dream of "Konbit" or "working together towards the common good".
