The Rain Is Not the Same for Everyone In recent days, heavy storms across Veracruz, Hidalgo, and Puebla have left dozens dead and thousands of families without homes. Entire communities were flooded or cut off by landslides and rising rivers. At TECHO, we are working hand-in-hand with the most affected families -those living in informal settlements where the rain hits hardest- to provide emergency shelter, essential supplies, and long-term rebuilding support. It is estimated that 64 people have lost their lives so far, and dozens more remain missing. In Veracruz, at least 29 deaths have been reported, with hundreds of affected communities and thousands of damaged homes - over 16,000 in some municipalities. Many localities remain cut off and isolated. In Hidalgo and Puebla, the losses are also severe: 35 deaths, dozens of municipalities with major damage, isolated communities, and affected schools, roads, and housing infrastructure.
Provide immediate shelter and essential supplies - including food, water, blankets, and hygiene kits - to families whose homes were damaged or destroyed. Repair and rebuild homes and community infrastructure, restoring safe living conditions and access to schools, roads, and public spaces. Support long-term community resilience, equipping families with tools, training, and resources to better withstand future storms.
Safe and resilient housing - families will have homes rebuilt or reinforced to better withstand future storms, reducing vulnerability to natural disasters. Stronger communities - by restoring infrastructure and public spaces, communities will regain access to schools, roads, and essential services. Reduced inequality in disaster response - targeting the most vulnerable settlements ensures that aid reaches those who are most affected, creating more equitable recovery.
