A Safe Place for Kids in Deheishe Refugee Camp

Your steadfast generosity has carried us through one of the most challenging seasons in recent memory, and it is your loyalty that allows us to keep the doors of hope open for the children of Deheishe Refugee Camp. We do not take your kindness for granted, and we want you to know that every contribution, however modest, becomes a lifeline for a family here.

You may have noticed that our GlobalGiving page has been quieter than usual over the past months. We want to be honest with you about why. Karama has been working through a demanding period of administrative and financial requirements—both to complete our local registration and to meet the accountability standards that responsible stewardship of your donations demands. This work was difficult and it took time, but it was essential. It ensures that your trust in us rests on solid, transparent foundations. With that chapter now behind us, we are eager to reconnect with you and share our work more fully once again.

Summer in Palestine is meant to be a season of rest and play. For the children of Deheishe, it is instead lived in the shadow of ongoing conflict and occupation, where even the simple freedom of childhood is fragile. Through it all, Karama's playground—the only dedicated play space in the entire camp—has remained open, welcoming many children each and every day. It is a small square of safety, laughter, and healing in a place where such spaces are rare and precious.

Yet even this sanctuary has not been spared. Over recent weeks, the Israeli military created dangerous situations in Deheishe on several occasions, including repeated incidents in which tear gas was spread heavily through the camp. On one especially frightening day, every child in the playground had to be evacuated by ambulance and medical staff after the tear gas caused children to faint and fall into distress. These are the realities our young ones endure, and they are the reason our work—and your support—matters so deeply.
