Lucy, a transgender woman known as The Dama del Abujao, and her partner Arnulfo were forced to leave their land due to homophobia and illegal activities in the region. They lost their home, crops, and animals. This project provides a safe place, housing, tools, and resources to rebuild their lives, restart productive activities, and support their livelihood, while raising awareness of trans couples' challenges in the Amazon, promoting dignity, inclusion, and respect.
An LGBTQ+ couple was displaced by homophobia and the spread of illegal activities in the Peruvian Amazon. In remote areas without police presence, LGBTQ+ people remain unprotected. They lost their home, animals, and crops, and the lack of visibility increases violence. This project is the first initiative to support them, aiming to restore their dignity, respect, and access to safe land to rebuild their lives.
The project will provide Lucy and Arnulfo a safe place to live, materials and resources to rebuild their home and livelihoods, including farming and animal husbandry. It will also support temporary land rental until they can purchase their own land. Additionally, the project will raise awareness of their experiences as a trans couple, promoting respect, inclusion, and understanding within the Amazonian community.
Lucy and Arnulfo will be able to live safely and independently, rebuilding their livelihoods and stability. Raising awareness of their situation will promote respect and inclusion for trans couples in the Amazon. The project will also help strengthen resilient and supportive communities, capable of assisting vulnerable people and resisting violence and illegal activities, creating a safer and more inclusive environment in the long term.
