We are working on a mission to ensure that the 300,000+ children in Côte d'ivoire who attend Islamic Education Structures receive a recognised, quality eduction. Between now and the end of 2025, along with the Ministry of Education, UNICEF and other partners, we are training teachers to bring the education standard up to the national level.
Since the launch of the project, we have successfully carried out several important activities to support the integration of Islamic education structures (IES).
The activities led by our teams focused on the themes of human rights, secularism and national cohesion - not your usual school curriculum - but topics essential for ensuring that the Islamic and public education systems can be synchronised and which build the basis for communication, understanding and ultimately academic success.
After completing a need analysis workshop in Yamoussoukro with the representatives of the IES and staff of the Ministry of Education and other workshops, we completed a unique set of pedagogical resources including a guidance booklet for teachers and managers of Islamic structures.
Despite Covid, Graines de Paix was able to train more than 100 primary and pre-school education inspectors, more than 300 pedagogical counselors, school principals and IES teachers. The teachers were very happy to receive training, as many of them had never had any formal teacher training. Follow-up and coaching sessions were also conducted in most of the schools. We are planning a workshop in the near future to share best practices with members of the ministry, the pool of trainers and pedagogical advisors.
Things are looking bright for the future with the government convening a regional meeting with other countries to discuss the approach. We already have interest from Senegal for a similar program.
Thank you for your interest and support! We could not accomplish this educational transformation without our community of generous, committed supporters. We invite you to continue to follow the progress of this program on our Cote d'Ivoire Facebook page and to visit our website.
