Imagine attendIng school throughout childhood yet never having that education recognised. 1.6 M school-age children in Cote d'Ivoire still don't receive a recognised education (2016). 25% only get non-formal education offered by poorly-trained religious structures. Graines de Paix works with the authorities to ensure that these children receive a broader-based, considerate, violence-free, education to reduce inequalities, increase national cohesion and provide a positive future for all children.
A quality education is recognised as one of the pillars of peaceful society. It is a fundamental human right. In many countries, private education provided by religious and other groups is often not recognised officially. Many teachers have never received any formal teacher training. The government of Cote d'Ivoire has introduced a strategy to ensure that every child in the country receives a quality, recognised education. This is essential for the country's stability, security and success.
This project is providing teachers, school directors, social workers, parents and leaders of the Islamic education community with essential training to enable children who are attending previously unrecognised education institutions with a nationally recognised education. The program encourages acceptance of religious and cultural differences, promotes national cohesion and improves the overall quality of education for these underprivileged children through positive, inclusive pedagogies.
The project will enable approximately 400,000 children to benefit from a nationally recognised education, improving their future employment prospects significantly. - It will provide teachers of the Islamic Education Structures with formal pedagogical training, improving the quality and breadth of education, and their own professional prospects. - It will improve national cohesion by reducing the inequalities between children educated in different systems.
