She makes the world bright but still struggles to see the light. In Pakistan over 9 Mn women still suffer from curable blindness. This project is aimed at giving the gift of sight to 1500 women who suffer from blindness due to cataract. Giving light to these women means securing the future of their families. With their vision restored they will become an independent and productive part of society again working towards the betterment of their children and families.
Unfortunately an estimated 10 % of the population is affected either by blindness or impaired vision of this 80% of blindness/impaired vision is curable but left untreated due to poverty and lack of access to ophthalmological facilities. Due to this these women are condemned to a life of dependence and deprivation. Cataract is the most common cause of blindness which is easily curable with a simple surgery costing a mere $30 on average but is still beyond the reach of most of these individuals.
LRBT has a wide network of hospitals with state of the art facilities. Spread all over Pakistan with its 74 hospitals and centers LRBT ensures that no one is more than a 3hour bus ride from one of their facilities. The mission being that no man, woman or child should go blind simply because they cannot afford the treatment. With this project we will provide the gift of sight to 1500 suffering women living below the poverty line.
Restoring the eyesight of these women will not only Return them to being productive and active members of society but will also help them get better earning opportunities and lead their family to achieving a better economic status.
