Dear friends:
We wanted to let you know that with your help, a garden is emerging at our 3LPlace residence in Somerville!
Katie Wilson, our program administrator and resident community garden expert, reports that our members have planted lettuce, cucumber, tomato, basil, cilantro and squash seeds in peat pots, and that the lettuce has already sprouted! The guys check the plants every afternoon and water them as needed.
DJ, one of our guys, is excited about the cucumbers in particular, as they are a staple in his diet (along with a little hummus!).
Your gifts also made it possible for us to buy gardening tools, and helped leverage some critical donations, including time and materials provided by a friendly local landscape pro. To date, in-kind donations worth more than $2,000 have cleared debris, removed impervious surfaces, brought in topsoil and pea stone, and prepared the area for planting. More in-kind contributions are pledged.
We will keep you posted as our garden continues to grow!
We are certain that with your continued support we will reach our goal on this important project!
