Dear friends, donors, and interested people,
The Rasta Camp near Ocean View is the first phase of this multi-location long term project to give over 10,000 something most of us take for granted and never stop to think about - secure access to water. One of the ways we're doing this in the initial phase of our project is planning to drill and build a well in a nearby mountain which will tap into an underwater stream and capture clean, pure water to provide for the rasta camp inhabitants. This initiative will cost $2000 and if succesful, will revolutionise their lives.
On top of providing drinking water, we are working with Jay Jay - a community member - to build a community farm which will crops such as tomatoes, spinach and pak choi to local businesses and people. The potential for complete sustainability here is fantastic: selling crops will generate revenue to expand the farm, employ more local people, and the cycle continues. This is only the start of a wonderful journey.
