School holidays, for most children, present an opportunity to have fun, visit new places, interact with new people, and even learn new skills that contribute to their holistic growth. Unfortunately, the children of Kibera rarely get to encounter new experiences or develop relationships as they spend their holiday time at home. Turning Point will take 80 children from Nairobi's Kibera slum for a week-long holiday camp in August.
Our programme activities contribute to the holistic development of the students. The holiday camps will therefore be a good opportunity for them to look forward to being away from the slums. Alumni of Turning Point have shared their experience at the camps and how much the camps transformed their character and perspective of life.
“I didn’t know there was life beyond Kibera. I remember seeing a swimming pool in magazines and newspapers until I came to see one in real life! Although I didn’t know how to swim, I still got to put my feet into it! I was very excited and couldn’t contain myself,” Ramadhan narrates his camp experience from six years ago.
The campsite and activities are specially chosen and designed to ensure the children are exposed to new stimulating environments and activities. Attending holiday camps also encourages the children to dream of expanding their horizons beyond Kibera.
As August draws near, the children cannot hide their excitement as they mention what they expect at this year's camp. This year's activities focus on teaching them skills that will positively contribute to their relationship among themselves and others in their community.
We thank you for partnering with us in restoring hope and transforming the lives of vulnerable children, as we invite you to join us in creating lifetime memories for these children through this year’s Holiday Camp.
