We are very pleased to let you know that we have rescued a 14-year-old boy and brought him to safety. This followed a tip off from a local child rights NGO that we had worked with before.
The rescue mission was undertaken by our staff team, with support from the local police. We originally thought we would be rescuing two boys, but someone had warned the factory and sadly one of the boys was hidden before we arrived.
When we rescued this boy he was initially very tearful. It's a big shock when your factory is raided by the police; children often assume they are in trouble. However this young boy is now at our safe house and has been reassured and comforted.
He had been working for about four months at a welding factory that made iron grills for windows. This young boy had been using dangerous welding equipment with no training or protective clothing. He was barefoot despite it being winter in Nepal.
We are hearing many stories of families in desperate financial circumstances who are having to send their children to work as a last resort. In certain situations we can offer financial support to families so that they can afford to send their children back to school.
For now, we are caring for this boy, who is now in safe hands.
Thank you for your support which enables us to rescue children like these, and restore their childhoods to them.
