Summary

Imagine this: you're 30 years old. You've never had a job. You've spent your whole life with your mother in your apartment. Now imagine that you come to a Day Center where people wait for you, where you cook, learn, grow, and finally start living. Every day, we welcome 30 young adults with mental disabilities to our Day Centres in Lviv, Ukraine. We cook lunch together, hold workshops, offer emotional support, and celebrate every small success. This is possible thanks to those who support us.

Challenge

In Ukraine, young people with mental disabilities are often isolated at home after finishing school, with no services, support, or places to go. Their mothers provide 24/7 care and lose economic and social opportunities. According to the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine, about 50,000 people live in institutional facilities in Ukraine. In fact, all of these people are deprived of the right to independent living, personal space, free movement, and the acquisition of self-reliance skills.

Solution

Our NGO has created two Supported Living Houses for people with mental disabilities and two Day Centers in Lviv, Ukraine. These services are an example of how a community can not only accept vulnerable people but also change with them for the better. The Centers provide activities to 30 people who have left closed institutions and those who now live with their families. Our Day Centers break the isolation by offering daily activities, socialization and emotional support.

Long-Term Impact

Our Day Centers help 30 young adults with mental disabilities move from isolation to independence. They gain social skills, confidence, and the ability to care for themselves. Their families, especially mothers, regain time, energy, and economic opportunities after years of nonstop care. Long term, this support strengthens families and builds a more inclusive, compassionate community.
