This school year that just started in 2026, in the spirit of our Rural University, Zahana has invested in pig farming as part of the curriculum. We acquired two piglets for the children’s hands-on learning by doing project. Later, when the pigs are fatted up they will be sold to boost our schools funds. Playfully children will acquire an important skill they can teach to their parents, to boost the family income, and later in life, when they become parents themselves. Note: Raising pigs has become one of the successful cornerstones of our microcredit projects in the past few years. (Note: In Madagacar porc is considered the desired meat, often reserved for special occasions, while beef is the 'common' meat)
In the same vein, a sewing workshop was organized at the request of the young women of Fiarenana and Fiadanana, making use of our school buildings as the venue. Sewing their own clothes offers and opportunity for tailor made fashion and income generating activities that have been very successful, especially in the village of Tsaramandroso. (See website)
