Water Survival Box is the initiative of the Rotary Club of Chelwood Bridge, England. Its purpose is to provide a rapid response to victims of natural or man-made disasters. The Aquafilter is an essential item which protects against water-borne disease. The box also contains a range of essential items including cooking pots, bowls/plates, mugs, and utensils; health and hygiene items; basic shelter & simple tools. The project is entirely volunteer led which keeps costs to a bare minimum.
When disasters strike it is often the water systems which are most contaminated. No one can survive for long without safe drinking water. It is usually the most vulnerable who are affected the worst. Losing everything in a disaster must be extremely traumatic and this project addresses that issue as well. Funds are always needed to ensure we have the capacity to respond to disasters.
The filter and pump contained in every box will provide up to 100000 litres of safe water - that equates to 5 litres per person a day in a 5 person family for 5 years. Simple cleaning procedures maintain its life and we always provide a manual for operation. Our partners who deliver the goods always carry out a training event to ensure recipients understand how to use the filter/pump. The other items help any family to start their lives again. All of the products in the box are new and durable.
Long term this is a life- saving product which enables families to start their lives again at no cost to themselves as we pay for all transportation to the disaster country and our partners cover in-country costs.
