Since 2023, Direct Impact Empowerment Foundation has quietly shown up for the families the system forgets: the widow, the struggling parent, the child who has learned not to expect much. Funding it ourselves, our Christmas outreach grew from 16 families in 2023, to 50 in 2024, to 120 in 2025. This year is different. With GlobalGiving's help, we can reach further than we ever could alone: 220 families with food, supplies, and dignity. No family should feel forgotten at Christmas.
For millions of Nigerian families, Christmas is not a season of celebration. It is a reminder of everything they go without. Rising costs, unemployment, and hardship push the most vulnerable further out of sight, and the people who need help most are often the ones no system reaches. Widows, struggling parents, and children go without a meal, let alone a Christmas. The problem is not that these families are beyond help. It is that no one shows up for them.
Direct Impact Empowerment Foundation reaches vulnerable families with food, essential supplies, and dignity. But we do not stop at a meal. For most families, Christmas is the entry point into our Dignity to Independence Programme, which walks them from crisis to lasting independence. We have sustained this since 2023, growing from 16 families to 120 in 2025 on our own funding. This year, with GlobalGiving, we aim to reach 220. We do not help from a distance. We show up, and we stay.
Our Christmas outreach is often the first contact between a family and our Dignity to Independence Programme. Each pack can feed a family of five for three days, but its real value is the door it opens. From crisis we move families toward stabilisation, economic restart, and lasting independence. The families we reach become the evidence base for the support that follows, because we do not fire and forget. Every year we reach further. The goal is not one good Christmas. It is a way out.
