La Carpio is one of the communities that has the most migrants in Costa Rica, which makes it a very particular territory. Another characteristic of the community is that it is an informal settlement which is inhabited mainly by people from Nicaragua and Costa Ricans. This particularity has created a binationality among the inhabitants of La Carpio, which becomes a cultural wealth, but at the same time, it creates structural problems such as xenophobia, racism, sexism and extreme poverty. From this, public institutions, social organizations, United Nations agencies, among others, make an effort, through socio-educational initiatives, training that generate social changes in the community.
During these months, in our physical space Casa ILORI (located in La Carpio) we have been welcoming institutions that carry out activities aimed at the community of La Carpio, this is part of our commitment to the population for the protection of children and the eradication of xenophobia, racism and sexism.
In addition, these activities allow inter-institutional coordination; also give visibility to the needs of children in La Carpio. The visibility and the approach of institutions and organizations to Casa ILORI is very relevant matter since it allows recognition of the problems that the community has.
Among the organizations that we have received at Casa ILORI, is the Patronato Nacional de la Infancia, which held a workshop for mothers on the upbringing and care of children. Vocational guidance workshops were held with the Instituto de Nacional de Aprendizaje. With UNICEF, we held workshops aimed at migrant children, we also had training with the IOM and the Dirección de Migración y Extranjería, on the steps to follow for the regularization of migrants. These initiatives to open the doors of Casa ILORI to other institutions and organizations in solidarity, are part of the work we do, thanks to your donations and solidarity.
We greatly appreciate your collaboration.
