Doing good in primary school is not easy when you live in a deprived community with very limited resources, with no safe place to study or play, and it is overcrowded and polluted. Children in the urban-marginal community of Carpio face such circumstances every day. And the Pandemic has only worsened their situation. The lack of Internet and/or smart devices makes it very difficult for them to keep up with their education.
At Casa ILORI, our educational program, we keep working so that 215 children in the community get healthy meals, are successful in school, develop emotional skills, and are getting tools to gain a healthy self-perception for future self-sufficiency.
Even Pandemic and sanitary measures such as social distance have impacted the way we work, we have adjusted to the circumstances and found creative and innovative ways to keep the workup. Kids who have access to Internet have a mix of virtual and in-site sessions in Mathematics, Spanish, and guitar. Those who don’t come more often to our center. Instead of having their meals at the center, we prepare food-to-go and emotional support is given one to one or with relatives in family sessions. We continue English and singing classes with some of the children virtually.
Thank you for your donations, your impact is significant in the lives of children at la Carpio. We and they very much appreciate your support. Thanks for contributing to enhance their opportunities of breaking the poverty cycle and achieve their dreams and life goals.
