We work for the cyclists across the state who see bicycling as a solution for the traffic, health, and environmental challenges we face in our communities. We can't do it alone. MassBike depends on people like you to continue our work improving the safety of bicycling as a healthy and more sustainable means of transportation and recreation.
In the last few years, bicycling in Massachusetts has increased more than 75%, and laws and roadways throughout the state must adequately evolve to meet this demand. MassBike's work addresses the lack of dedicated on-road facilities for cyclists, connectivity of off-road bike paths, integration of bicycles into public transportation systems, and legislation that helps ensure safe cycling. From small towns to big cities, we help every resident bike safer.
MassBike works to improve legislation, such as protecting funding for biking and walking projects at the national level; teaches children and adults how to ride more safely through English and bilingual programs; conducts bikeability assessments; builds local capacity through community engagement; conducts MBTA bus driver trainings and police officer trainings; works on innovative street closure projects; and provides bike valet parking at various events.
Our work leads to fewer crashes, a better environment, and a healthier community. We've already seen a decline in crash rate trends in key communities and an increase in bicycling for recreation and commuting. Continued work will bring those positive statistics to communities across Massachusetts. MassBike strives to create a bicyclist-friendly Massachusetts that encourages safe bicycling for fun, fitness, and transportation.
