Thanks to your incredible support, our community is making strides toward a cleaner, more sustainable Bahía de Los Ángeles! We’re excited to share an update on our initiative to eliminate single-use plastics and styrofoam, helping local restaurants, food stands and markets to replace them with less harmful, sustainble alternatives.
Progress Update: Since the start of our to-go container program, we've provided our local markets, food stands, and restaurants with 16,324 alternative items—including forks, knives, spoons, to-go boxes, bags, foil, and plates. In the beginning of 2024, we purchased and distributed 1,200 units, and with your help, in August we were able to acquire another 1,200 units thanks to your generous donations! This August purchase alone means that 1,200 pieces of plastic and styrofoam have been replaced with eco-friendly alternatives at local businesses! Every single item distributed is a tangible result of your support, directly reducing waste and transforming how our community interacts with the environment. Together, we're creating lasting change, one sustainable swap at a time.
Impact: This initiative has already made a noticeable difference. Each sustainable swap eliminates waste that would otherwise end up in our beautiful landscapes and marine environments. Further, the community enthusiasm for this project has been incredible! By reducing the reliance on plastics and styrofoam, we’re helping preserve the natural beauty and health of Bahia de Los Angeles for future generations.
Thank You: We couldn’t have done this without your generosity. Your contributions are essential to the progress we’ve made, and they remind us of the power of community-driven change. Every dollar donated brings us closer to a BDLA free of single-use styrofoam and plastic!
The Road Ahead: The Vermilion Sea Institute, together with our local youth program, Aventureros, remains committed to our mission of fostering environmental responsibility here in Bahía de Los Ángeles. While we had hoped to expand our initiatives further, this GlobalGiving project will close for now due to limited funding. However, with continued support and future donations, we’re optimistic that we can achieve even greater strides toward reducing waste and promoting sustainable autonomy for our community.
Thank you for joining us on this journey!
With gratitude,
The Vermilion Sea Institute Team
