This microproject will support 300 teen girls to attend the International Day of the Girl Child at Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. The purpose for bringing the girls to the conference is to encourage them to develop higher goals in life and also boost their self esteem and self confidence by exposing them to women from all walks of life who have achieved significant success in life. These women will be an inspiration to the girls to aspire to climb higher on the educational ladder.
This microproject will provide funding to transport 300 teen girls from rural communities to Kumasi, the capital city of the Ashanti Region to partake in various activities marking the International Day of the Girl Child. It will also provide money to buy lunch and snacks for the girls as well as the designing of T-shirts for the girls to wear at the conference and other conference materials and documents.
By bringing the girls from the rural areas to Kumasi to attend this conference, they will have the opportunity to meet and interact with successful women engaged in various careers, trade and professions which will expose them to the diversity of life choices available to them if they pursue a higher education. These women will share their own experiences and challenges with the girls to teach them how to handle their own life hurdles, mentor the girls and serve as role models for them.
The long term impact of bringing the girls to this conference lies in the exposure and mentorship which will see more girls opting to pursue a higher education and choosing professions in the sciences and technology where women are under-represented. It will also help curb the incidence of teenage pregnancy since these girls will learn to put their education and career first and hence put in the effort to strive to achieve these in their lives. This will in turn boost economic development.
