COVID-19 Intervention Program provided academic support and fun physical activities for all primary and secondary school students in the village through the period of September through to December 2020. Impact Youth hired the services of two trained teachers to deliver Maths, Science, and English tutoring for secondary school students. The secondary school students in return for receiving free tuition, tutored and run various fun life skills activities for the kindergarten and primary children as a form of giving back. At the end of the program, a total of 9 secondary school students and 20 primary school students were engaged in learning activities through a period of 9 weeks and close to 100 kindergarten and primary children were engaged in weekly fun activities. Below is a statement put together by the secondary school beneficiaries.
“At first when we came back from school because of the COVID-19 pandemic our parents and us we were not able to earn enough money for classes but through Impact youth’s intervention project classes was organized for us. Because of this, our parents were able to save the little money they had saved to take care of us. Secondly, the intervention program helped us to learn ahead of what we were taught in school. In our various schools, we learnt only three topics in the syllabus before school was suddenly closed in March. During the classes, we started learning from the bottom of the syllabus and this has helped us to cover 10 topics in the syllabus for English, Math, & Science. Finally, without the classes, we would have engaged in acts like stealing, sex, and smoking and we would have also wasted our time loitering around. The classes have really helped us make good use of our time and it has also helped us to build on our leadership skills by giving back to the young kids as we helped them to also learn and do various school activities. We want to say a big thank you to Impact youth for this initiative".
