In rural Southern Madagascar, families face recurring droughts, cyclones, soil erosion, and chronic food insecurity. Women who rely on farming to feed their children are especially vulnerable when crops fail. This project will help 80 women from four villages adopt more resilient agroforestry practices, giving them training, seedlings, tools, and follow-up support to strengthen household food production and cope better with climate shocks.
This microproject will provide 80 women from four villages with practical agroforestry training, tools, 4,000 seedlings, and 12 months of follow-up support. Each woman will receive 50 plants adapted to local conditions. By combining training, equipment, seedlings, and continued support, the project will help women improve food production, strengthen household food security, and build farming systems that are more resilient to droughts and cyclones.
In the long term, the project will help the 80 women and their families build a more stable and climate-resilient source of food in Southern Madagascar. The knowledge, seedlings, and follow-up support will reduce vulnerability to droughts and cyclones, strengthen food security, and may also create additional income from surplus production. The model will enable TINONE to expand the initiative to more women and villages across the Androy Region.
