Wildfires in southern Chile have devastated communities, leaving families without homes and facing deep loss. Hogar de Cristo is delivering an emergency response to support families from the first days of recovery. The project provides debris removal kits, emergency housing support, and psychosocial accompaniment to help families rebuild with dignity. Over 37,000 hectares have burned and at least 760 homes have been destroyed.
The wildfires in Biobio and Nuble regions destroyed homes, livelihoods, and community spaces. After the flames fade, families must clear debris, secure shelter, and cope with trauma. Many affected households were already vulnerable and lack the resources to recover alone. Without timely and sustained support, the path to recovery becomes longer, harder, and more isolating.
Hogar de Cristo delivers a three-stage response. First, families receive debris removal kits to clear and prepare damaged spaces. Second, emergency housing kits help restore basic living conditions and habitability. Throughout the process, families receive psychosocial support focused on emotional recovery and long-term accompaniment. This integrated approach ensures dignified and sustained recovery.
By combining material aid with psychosocial support, families can rebuild not only their homes but also their sense of safety and stability. This project strengthens long-term recovery, emotional well-being, and community resilience. Families are better prepared to move forward with dignity, supported by Hogar de Cristo's continued presence beyond the emergency.
