Mundo de Talentos raised 1,151 EUR through fundraising platform GlobalGiving for their vocational guidance pilot for rural youth in Mexico. During 2021 Mundo de Talentos carried out the preparatory work for the expansion of our vocational guidance activities to the rural area. We were able to connect with the management of a secondary school located in the town of Teopisca, through the father of one of our second-year students in San Cristóbal de Las Casas (where our first branch is located). The management of this school is interested in participating in the program. We are happy that the Mundo de Talentos project can be expanded through the contacts of the families that participate in the project.
In February 2022, Mundo de Talentos has officially started the expansion to the rural area. We are working with students from 1st and 2nd year of secondary school. Young people of this age have already decided to continue studying, which is why it is an excellent time to continue motivating them through a vocational guidance process.
The pilot project takes place in the municipality of Teopisca, 30 minutes from San Cristóbal de Las Casas. The pilot started with 20 male and female students and will last for 4 months. During the first sessions we elaborated on the professions of communications expert, actor, and a primary school professor. We also already implemented our first excursion with the Teopisca students. On Saturday March 5, they went to visit a sustainable restaurant in San Cristóbal de Las Casas, where composting and water reuse are focal points in the daily food preparation activities.
After this initial phase that ends in May 2022, we will evaluate the process and make the necessary adjustments to start the first official generation with 40 students in Teopisca, in September 2022.
We are convinced that positive examples inspire. Therefore, we invite passionate professionals who are originally from rural areas. Their life experiences motivate youth to continue studying, choose the career they like and better understand how to orient themselves about their future possibilities.
