Mundo de Talentos is expanding its activities to Oaxaca state from January 2023! The goal is to offer vocational guidance to 40 primary public school going children in Oaxaca City after a successful pilot with 20 students, sep/nov. By inviting passionate professionals, who will share their professional and life experiences, we will motivate students to continue studying, get a better understanding of how to orient themselves on their future possibilities and to choose a career that suits them.
In Mexico, daily, 1,800 students drop out of high schools, most of them in the first year. Out of every 10 students who enter college, only two end up with a degree. 4 million Mexican children and adolescents do not participate in the educational system. Around 7 million young people in Mexico are unemployed and receive no education at all. Taking this context into account, the State of Oaxaca and Chiapas rank last in Mexico in terms of school attendance for children from 6 to 14 years old.
Mundo de Talentos provides free vocational guidance for 40 students between 10 and 13 years, through a two year program on Saturdays. Passionate professionals share their work experience with the students and invite them to engage in group exercises and excursions. The project aims to strengthen students self-esteem and improves their sense of belonging in society by discovering their own talents. The program covers 12 modules including architecture, arts, innovation, gender, among many others.
The long-term impact for this project includes three aspects of the students development: better future prospects, improved self-awareness, and a feeling of more connectedness with society. The project aims to reach these three goals by connecting a program of academic and artistic subjects with the enhancement of socioemotional skills of youth. The project motivates them to become responsible and strong actors of society who are prepared for their own futures. Yearly 40 new students will start.
