I am very thankful to present our sixth report of the project - Rehabilitate 250 disabled children in India via GlobalGiving.
This time I would like to call your attention to some of our activities than what we do for the disabled children. Sangli Mission Society run Help Kerala Campaign from 19th to 25th Aug 2018 to help the flood affected people in Kerala. Campaign was organized using social media to reach out to people. Apart from people from all walks of life; schools, colleges, universities, clubs, Self Help Groups, NGOs and our staff donated vehemently to this cause. A truck full of collected material was sent on 26th Aug 2016 to Kerala. We have acknowledged the donors with letter of appreciation.
Tree plantation campaign carried out with the help of Self Help Groups, schools and Govt. officials in various villages. 472 trees were planted in July & Aug 2018. Responsibility of tree preservation was taken by Self Help Groups and schools in respective areas. 147 people from Below Poverty Line (BPL) families linked with micro insurance policy. This is a unique attempt helping the poor people to benefit insurance in case of death or returns the deposited amount to the policy holder once the term gets over.
Four tailoring batches in Kanwad, Khed, Halondi, Kerlivillages were inaugurated in Sept. 2018. 123 women from Ghalwad village of Shirol Maharashtra were provided with certificate as they have successfully completed tailoring course and bag making training. Conducted free physiotherapy medical camp for physically disabled special children under CBR project in September 2018 at ALPHO training and animating center, Herle, Kolhapur. We also conducted two days’ training program titled “Learning through Comics”, on 5th & 6th Oct. 2018 at ALPHO training and animation center, Herle, Kolhapur. The aim of the workshop was to train the CWDs with comics to independently express their feelings and issues through the use of comics.
Let me share with you few success stories…
Raju (name changed) was born on 06th November 2010 with intellectual disability, hearing and speech impairment. This boy is also small in physique and was admitted to Jeevdan Special School on 25th June 2018. His eye-hand co-ordination and fine motor functioning was poor that he was not able to hold objects properly. After five months of physiotherapy there is extraordinary progress in his gross and fine motor skills that he is able eat and drink with own hands. He studies in pre-primary group. He has made remarkable progress in managing toilet needs. Because of speech therapy he has improved his communication skills and tries to express his needs in simple words. He tries to follow indications. He listens to music and participates in group games/activities.
Abu (name changed) a 11 year old boy, was admitted to Jeevdan Special School on 20th December 2016. He was born on 07th February, 2007. He was diagnosed with moderate intellectual disability with Down syndrome. Child tries to manage personal care. He studies in primary session. He needs verbal prompting for washing, brushing, undressing, dressing etc. He writes a few numbers one and two. Child is able to concentrate for a longer period and listens to the teachers. He is very much active in the class. He recognizes pictures of animals, birds, fruits, vegetables, vehicles etc. He is interested in yoga, sports and games and participates in running, spot jump etc. Parents are overwhelmed by the progress of the child. He plays tabala well and is interested in music.
We have four recurring donors at present. I would like to tell you that “Year-End Campaign” begins from 27th November 2018 and ends on 31st December. As you know this is a month long campaign.
