Asina's Vision Restoration Fundraiser 30 Days Left

By Victoria Spencer Geurts | Founder and President of Save Children of Mbale

Dear Supporters,

I hope this message finds you well. We're reaching out with an urgent update on our ongoing GlobalGiving fundraiser, "Vision of Hope," aimed at raising funds for Asina's crucial surgery. With just 30 days remaining, we wanted to share the progress and express our heartfelt gratitude for your support thus far.

Currently, we've raised an inspiring $842 out of the $1200 estimated by the eye hospital to complete Asina's surgery. As a reminder, Asina lost her vision at the age of 5 due to a severe case of malaria, surviving against all odds. Now, at 12 years old, she faces the challenges of blindness and abandonment by her family.

Living in Uganda, where high poverty levels prevail due to a lack of employment opportunities, life is exceptionally challenging. At MCCF, we are committed to providing each child with a formal education to enhance their prospects for employment. Unfortunately, Asina, despite her remarkable intelligence, has been excluded from formal education due to her handicap.

Imagine the struggles she would face as an adult outside the orphanage without the ability to see. We took Asina to an eye hospital in Tororo, where examinations revealed that her blindness is reversible through surgery. The delicate operation requires specialized equipment available at a reputable eye hospital in Kampala, 5 hours away.

As our fundraiser progresses, I have full faith that in 2024, Asina will undergo the surgery she so desperately needs. I eagerly anticipate my return to Uganda, envisioning the moment she can see and recognize not just my voice but the world around her.

Asina is a gentle, loving girl with a soft-spoken nature. While she doesn't have a direct sponsor like some of our other children, we're reaching out to you. If you or anyone you know is interested in personally sponsoring her, please let us know. By signing up as a monthly sponsor through GlobalGiving, you'll receive regular updates, photos, and videos directly from me, fostering a more personal connection.

We urge you to share this project's link on your social media platforms before it expires in 30 days. If our goal hasn't been reached by then, rest assured that we will create another fundraiser, either continuing support for Asina or establishing a medical savings fund for MCCF in case of emergencies.

Medical care, requiring payment in advance, is critical for the well-being of our children. Lack of funds has tragically led to loss of life in nearby communities, emphasizing the urgency of our mission. Together, let's protect and ensure the health and safety of MCCF.

Thank you for your unwavering support and faith in us. Your contributions make a profound difference in the lives of these children.

Warm regards,

Victoria
