Rock-Paper-Scissors Children's Fund Art Program

By Patrick J. O'Brien | Director

Dear Friends,

It has been an amazing summer!  We recently returned from two months in Vietnam and have our program up and running in the small town of  Cam Duc.  We were able to find an unbelievable house to rent for both our music and art programs.  Our music teacher Tuan has agreed to live there and teach both music and art, and we couldn’t be more happy; Tuan is great with all the kids, a wonderful artist and musician and a great soul.

We were able to buy new tables, chairs, and enough art supplies for the year to come, and really can’t wait to see what creations our students will make.  We have started a partnership with the local Red Cross and they are assisting us in identifying children who are talented in art, but who are financially in need. We want to give these kids the opportunity to be able to be artists outside of school time.

With the children from the Hoa Yen Community home in Cam Duc, this summer we were able to do a project inspired by a young artist from the MET High School in Newport, Rhode Island.   It was great to connect our two communities in such a creative and meaningful way.  The distance between the two in miles is vast, but art is transcendent and we hope our collaborations with artists here at home, will continue to fuel our inspiration behind the projects as we share them with our students miles away.

We want to thank you for your continued support. Rock-Paper-Scissors Children’s Fund Art Program is possible only because of donors like you who have thoughtfully chosen to support us. Because of your generosity, so many meaningful projects and opportunities can be brought to children in need.

We wish you good luck and good health in the months ahead,

The Rock-Paper-Scissors Children’s Fund Team
