Thousands of Palestinian refugee children miss out on their foundational education due to harsh local circumstances. Help Karama Organization arrange the community to provide key courses for students 6-14 so they do not miss out on a brighter future! UNICEF showed in 2021 poverty and refugee status have a huge impact on children reaching their literacy goals; this year it is worse due to ongoing strikes. Karama will teach the poorest households, so they develop the skills they need to thrive.
Only 49% of the Palestinian refugee children reach their literacy goals, acc. to a 2021 UNICEF study. Large gaps have emerged in Palestine around access to quality education. During COVID19 and 2022-2023, private schools are managing, but UNRWA schools are falling apart. This school years has seen even more strikes for weeks on end, limiting the access to education from the poorest families of society. Karama and Palestinian civil society will not let go of the most vulnerable young generation!!
Karama and its partners will work with committed local teachers and social workers to provide foundational courses to the poorest households with refugee status. While Karama supports the demands of the different worker unions, our neutral position makes it possible to rally around our common goal: to benefit the vulnerable and make sure they not lose another year. Focus will be on Arabic &Mathematics. Karama will make all arrangements for location, materials and selection &communication.
Karama center empowers refugee children and youth to become active citizens who shape their future in a peaceful and constructive way. So far over 1500 children improved their performance in school and society because of our safe haven for education, opportunities, joy. Our Palestinian volunteers who have been members of Karama for several years are the living proof of this; many now study at university (a rare occurrence in Palestinian refugee camps) and play major roles in the local society.
